When we experience stress at work, our minds can become preoccupied with meetings, problems, deadlines, and work-related issues. The brain may interpret these recurring thoughts as signs of danger or a threat that needs to be addressed. As a result, it can remain in a state of alertness, making it difficult to relax and fall asleep.

Consequences

  1. Recurring thoughts during the night
  2. Sudden awakenings during the night
  3. Waking up feeling low on energy
  4. Physical fatigue and tiredness

Solutions

Set Clear Work Boundaries

  1. Stop work tasks at least two hours before bedtime
  2. Turn off work notifications on your phone.
  3. Write down any unfinished tasks on a paper list to get them out of your head.

Create a Calm Evening Routine

  1. Take a warm bath or shower to lower your body temperature afterward, which signals sleep.
  2. Dim your house lights to help your body make the natural sleep hormone melatonin.
  3. Avoid phones, tablets, and computers for at least an hour before bed.
  4. Try reading a book before sleeping

Relax Your Body and Mind

  1. Try slow breathing exercises, like inhaling for 4 seconds and exhaling for 6 seconds.
  2. Do progressive muscle relaxation by tensing and then releasing each muscle group from your toes up.
  3. Read a physical book or listen to soft music in dim light if you feel restless.
  4. Stop looking on the time
